Leak testing and leak detection (LT)

Leak testing, a non-destructive test method long established at INCOS, has so far been mainly used as bubble leak detection in weld seam testing.

However, because of increasing requirements on the leakage integrity of tanks and pipes, a bubble test is often no longer adequate because of its low detection sensitivity, and in addition to merely locating a leak the leakage rate will also needed to be determined.

INCOS did not remain idle but ventured out to train personnel according to level LT2, invested in test equipment and at the end of last year incorporated the test gas system with portable helium leak detector in the testing program. The tests where proof is produced on a mass-spectrometric basis can be performed both in overpressure and vacuum processes; depending on the application, integral or snifting methods are used where leakage rates up to 10-6 mbar * l * s-1 can be detected.
